From the Altiplano to the Salt Flats

In April 2014, we spent ten unforgettable days exploring Bolivia — a journey of dramatic landscapes, high-altitude adventure, and vibrant culture.

Our trip began with a short visit to La Paz, a city suspended between mountains and sky, before heading to Copacabana on the shores of Lake Titicaca. Here we witnessed a unique tradition: priests blessing cars and trucks in front of the basilica, a ritual mixing faith and festivity.

From there, we set out across the Bolivian Altiplano on a road trip through remote highlands. At over 4,200 meters above sea level, we discovered otherworldly lagunas where flamingos nest, their pink reflections standing out against the blue water and stark volcanic backdrop.

The journey concluded at the world’s largest salt flat — the Salar de Uyuni — a vast white expanse stretching to the horizon. Standing there felt like being on another planet, with the endless sky mirrored on the salt surface.
