International Hot Air Balloon

In 2014, I had the chance to experience the magic of the International Hot Air Balloon Week in Château-d’Œx, a picturesque alpine village in the heart of Switzerland.

Each January, balloonists from around the world gather here, filling the sky with color as dozens of hot air balloons rise against a backdrop of snowy peaks. The sight is nothing short of breathtaking — a floating rainbow drifting silently over the valley.

From the take-off fields to the surrounding hillsides, the event offers endless opportunities for photography. The crisp winter air, the excitement of the crews preparing their balloons, and the moment they lift off into the bright winter sky create an atmosphere that is both festive and serene.

Château-d’Œx has earned its reputation as the “Hot Air Balloon Capital of the Alps,” and this unforgettable week in 2014 was a perfect showcase of why.
