2026 Partial Solar Eclipse

Standing on the shores of Lac Léman at the eastern end of the lake, witnessing the solar eclipse on August 12, 2026 offered a unique perspective on this rare celestial event. With approximately 93% of the Sun obscured by the Moon at peak coverage around 20:17 CEST, the golden crescent hung dramatically low in the western sky just minutes before sunset.

The lakeside setting amplified the spectacle—the alpine backdrop framing the arc of light, while the water reflected the eerie twilight that descended prematurely across the valley. As the temperature dropped noticeably and the ambient light shifted to an ethereal amber hue, capturing this moment became both a technical challenge and an emotional experience.

This was the deepest partial eclipse visible in Switzerland until 2081, making it a once-in-a-lifetime photographic opportunity.
